Recently, Balboa School received a lot of questions and concerns from parents regarding the Vietnamese-American dual diploma program. Balboa School in Vietnam appreciates such interest. We hope that by answering the questions below, parents will have a better understanding of the dual diploma program.

1. What is the Vietnamese-American dual diploma program? What is special compared to the traditional educational program?

The Vietnamese-American dual diploma program is built on the foundation of the General Education Program of the State of California - USA, inherits the practical program at Balboa School - USA and the Vietnamese general education program in 2018. This integrated program has been appraised, recognized and licensed by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training to be taught in Vietnam.

Students will receive dual high school diplomas from Vietnam and BalboaSchool-USA after completing the program.

3 subjects are taught 100% in English, with native teachers. Students not only learn American standard knowledge and methods but also practice their language skills from a young age. 2 subjects Visual Arts and Physical Education are compiled from the American program, flexibly teaching both English and Vietnamese languages.

2. How to assign weekly homework?

Students have homework assignments daily, mainly individual reading comprehension tasks and projects, presentations to develop communication skills, research skills and scientific experiments.

Cuối tuần các con sẽ có phiếu cuối tuần cho các 2 môn Toán, Tiếng Việt và các môn của Hệ Mỹ như Tiếng Anh, Khoa học, Khoa học xã hội, Toán Tiếng Anh.

The homework assignment duration is based on studies on the amount and duration and type of homework assignments under the American program. Normally, for grade 1, no more than 45 minutes/day, and gradually increase every 10 minutes for the next grade.

3. The Vietnamese-American dual diploma program is a program that follows the long-term system to the high school level, so now there is a primary school program, so is there anything special and different in the middle and high school programs? Are there any materials for reference and textbooks?

The middle and high school programs will also have many differences from the current Vietnamese program.

In secondary school, there are: Math, English Language Arts, Science including Life science, Earth science, physical science, the social science is divided into ancient civilization and geography.

At the high school level, there are 8 compulsory subjects including:

Writing to Success, Career Planning, Personal Finance and Economics, US History 1 and 2, Multicultural Studies, US Government, American Literature Studies.

After that, students register for elective subjects for their careers (in English or Vietnamese). Level 3 is a period of career-oriented learning in the US and studying under the credit system (Students with enough subjects will be awarded a degree).

Regarding books, the US education system follows one curriculum framework. Books can be updated and renewed every year, so there is no need for students in primary school to consider notebooks in secondary school because the content of that knowledge is renewable when they reach secondary school. Balboa School is an inter-level school, so the Vietnamese American dual diploma program will ensure students study the elementary, middle, and high school programs connectively.

4. At the end of each level, is there a diploma in addition to the transcript?

There is no diploma for each grade level, only transcripts of each completed subgrade. In grade 12, after completing all the subjects of the American program, students are granted an American degree without a high school graduation exam, as in Vietnam.

5. If students finish primary or secondary school, can they study in the US?

Whenever the students of the Vietnamese American dual diploma program can study abroad, they will, as long as they have a sponsored family when they are under 18 years old. They will always study in the corresponding grade level as in Vietnam, not being downgraded.

6. During the studies of the international program, students transfer to another school for objective reasons, will certificates and degrees be valid for schools that require English?

When studying the dual diploma program, students have an advantage in English and receive a certificate from the school year from Balboa School, and at the same time, they are still studying Vietnamese subjects at primary school as usual, so children can still follow the Vietnamese program when they need to change schools at any time.

However, the transfer of children from the dual diploma system to high-quality public schools in the inner districts of Hanoi such as high-quality Cau Giay, high-quality Thanh Xuan, Nam Tu Liem, or second-level specialized, high-quality 2 Amsterdam, Luong The Vinh schools... then you also have to take Math, Vietnamese and English exams. Therefore, if you want to transfer to these schools, you need to make effort to study for these schools in your final years of high school. Because the learning style of the dual diploma program is not the same as that of a public school, it is not possible to guarantee that students will be able to enter high-quality schools.

7. Will the quality be guaranteed as students of the program are not exposed to the international environment every year? Do students have an exchange with the school in the US? If yes, by what method?

At the Vietnamese-American dual diploma program, students will study two programs combined in both Vietnamese and English. Students who finish grade 12 will receive both Vietnamese and American high school diplomas at an affordable cost. The school still ensures that children can study with foreign teachers 12 hours/week. Teachers are standard natives and fully meet the teaching requirements of the program. The number of lessons in English is 20 periods/45 Lessons accounting for 44.4% of the learning time. Such dual-diploma teaching will help students maintain Eastern philosophy and culture but still access Western science.

In addition, the program also organizes summer school trips for children in the US. In case students want to study in high school or only study in grade 12 for 1 year at Balboa, students are facilitated to transfer to study in the US (this cost is incurred in addition to the current cost of the program). Students who are studying in a dual diplóm program also have the opportunity to communicate through writing with students and teachers at Balboa School, USA through events.

8. Can students participate in interesting field trips and practical projects in the Vietnamese-American dual diploma class?

Of course, and it happens very often. The Vietnamese American dual diploma program is also known as the "golden land" of creative projects - where children can learn and experience a variety of projects, and activities such as planting trees, summer camps, learn about nature, etc. so that they can experience and improve their knowledge.

9. What does the “Personalization” education in the Vietnamese American Dual Diploma Program mean?

It is about empowering each student to take ownership of the learning experience, helping them succeed in the future. The dual diploma program always equips students with a comprehensive general knowledge foundation and a happy educational environment to arouse their potential and creativity, form positive thinking and personality, the intelligence of the times, and create conditions for international integration.

Balboa School always wants to become a solid educational ecosystem for students in terms of academics, aptitudes, personality, and qualities.
