The Vietnamese-American dual diploma program inherits the practical program at Balboa School, USA and the general education program in Vietnam in 2018, so the teaching and learning methods are also very special. The teaching method of the program combines the quintessence of Eastern education with the philosophy of respecting the teacher, the energy to overcome difficulties and modern teaching methods of the West with the philosophy of empowerment and initiative in teaching.

In the learning process, students can express their thoughts, and practice the lecture directly through methods such as: Flipped classroom, Inquiry-based learning), Experience-based learning, Project-based learning, STEM.

The program applies the teaching model of 5E: Engage (Arousal), Explore (Discover), Explain (Explain), Elaborate (Apply), Evaluate. In this way, teachers can accurately observe and assess the ability of each student, thereby offering personalized methods for each student.

Based on the characteristics of each individual subject, the Vietnamese American dual dipoma program applies different learning methods, ensuring that students can access the lesson content and retain knowledge effectively.

1. English

With English, the Vietnamese-American dual diploma program applies the Play - based learning method.

Play-based learning is an educational method whereby children's learning activities are organized in the form of meaningful games, through which lessons will be effectively conveyed, and students remember longer.

At first, the teacher will introduce syllables through pictures and guide how to read, then students will practice the new sounds they have just learned through games, from which they can be used to do exercises in the books and complete worksheets right in class. In addition, students also practice lessons through hands-on activities. At home, students will do homework on the app to listen and read English books or play Rainforest games to reinforce the sounds.

2. Maths

The program's Math subject combines methods for students to achieve the best learning effect, including problem-based learning, Visual learning. For each lesson, the teacher will give an opening problem or real situation, then illustrates the math operations with pictures or visual aids. From observing images, children will form their own concepts and establish mathematical principles. Finally, the children apply knowledge to solve math problems and do exercises.

Problem-based learning is teaching in which complex real-world problems are used as a means to motivate students to learn concepts and principles rather than directly presenting the concepts. This method can promote the development of critical thinking skills, problem-solving and communication skills.

The process of learning Math in class is as follows:

  • Children can use blocks as visual tools to solve math problems
  • Practice problem-solving through games or group activities
  • Then, from the above diverse learning methods, the children firmly grasped the mathematical knowledge to apply to self-complete the worksheets in class.

3. Science

The science subjects of the program are taught according to the Inquiry-based Learning method. The course materials are plants or craft STEM tools.

The inquiry method is applied to help students be easily self-aware and self-explain when asked questions. The system of questions used in the query needs to guide learners to list the main content of the lesson and provide solutions to the problems posed in each content. Questioning must also be very flexible, depending greatly on the progress of students' responses. It requires teachers to know how to lead, suggest and guide learners toward the main goal of the lesson.

This method stimulates continuous brainstorming and trains logical thinking as well as independent problem-solving ability.

The process of learning science is as follows:

First, students will make their own predictions for the teacher's opening question related to the lesson topic.

Next, the children discuss and observe reality in groups, from which they synthesized their opinions and gave answers to the questions then shared what they had gained with the teacher and the whole class.
